So I happened across a pretty sweet deal on a set of axles. A ford 8.8 and a Dana 44 HP.
Upon inspection the 8.8 had 5.13 gears, disc brakes, and a Detroit locker awesome. The 44 had 4.10 gears open carrier and came disassembled.
So I am going to chronicle my build up of the HP44. I have the 5.13 gears, the install kit, and a Aussie Torq locker ordered for it, since it has 4.10s I didn't need a new case.
The plan in my head now is 5.13, Aussie, RCV axles with the crane high steer knuckles. May swap these axles out for the 4.88/d44s in Bridget

Made some progress today, got the carrier out and the ring gear off, got held up by a danm roll pin, so im gonna take it to work and get the new ring gear and locker installed.
I managed to round up a couple of special tools, complete set of Dana axle dummy bearings and a fancy pinion ln depth tool( measures for the pinion depth shim )

Got the roll pin out, cleaned the case up and test fit the TORQ locker. Will have to have it installed before I pur the ring gear on.

Locker assembled with the springs.
Ring gear installed 5.13 still need to torque them and use the new hardware, left that at home. Pictures of the pinion depth tool and the Dana dummy bearings( last picture has the dummy bearings installed on the carrier) slid on no problem, one I get the pinion shim figured out and installed the dummy bearings and case spreader will make install cake.

This is the pinion shim measurement tool installed and reading .033 my pinion has a +2 variance which means it is .002 taller than the standard height. So with that the math goes .033-.002( you subtract because the pinion Is taller) and you get your required shim of .031
I did do the side shim measurement also,
Installed the dummy bearings on the case, installed it in the housing, seated the bearings with a dead blow.
Put the dial on the ring gear side of the carrier. Pryed it over that direction zeroed the indicator then pryed it to the pinion side which game me a .050 measurement.
Dana recommends a .010 shim to set preload so a total of .060 shims are needed to set preload and adjust back lash.
I need to clean the housing and install new seals befor I assemble the gear set.
