I have incubated eggs, but that was 35 years ago. We just let 1 hen lay and set. Then I found out we had 2 setting, needless to say, we had 20-ish chicks. But, even that was several years ago.

None of them naturally set? After there gets to be several eggs in the nest, they naturally set.

No, none of them do. I've read where they are trying to breed that out of chickens..I've left eggs for a week or so but none of the hens will set on the nest

Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds. 4 Barred Rocks, three reds, and one Red Rooster (Foghorn) :smokin:

Currently we have a one Barred Rocks, a Laced Wyandotte, an Americana not 100% on that and a Buff Orpington. The buff seems to be the best out of the bunch. She will get brudie occasionally. Others are still fairly young.

Reds are not kid friendly, BTW. Barred are one of the most social and a high volume egg layer. I have had lots of them. Very sweet birds.

We don’t have a rooster so we only use ours for eggs. The kids wanted to try it during COVID so of course that means the wife and I ended up being in charge of them. We have two Easter Eggers, one Blue Lace, three white leghorns, and one barnvelder.
